Retired DC Lieutenant Charged For Fatal Library Shooting

Police arrested a familiar face in law enforcement after he shot and killed a 25-year-old in the Anacostia Neighborhood Library, officials said.

At around 3:30 p.m. on August 4, officers found Maurica Manyan suffering life-threatening injuries during a Special Police training session, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Police said Manyan was pronounced dead at a local hospital. 

Law enforcement's investigation revealed that the shooter, 58-year-old Jesse Porter, is a retired Metropolitan Police Department lieutenant that was providing baton instruction to the Library Special Police Officers.

Officials said Porter was charged with involuntary manslaughter.
